Arrow ls1 build thoughts

Im needing a direction to go for my ls1. My thoughts are low 500 hp mark range and as much torque as possible with it being streetable. My first thoughts about the engine was just throw stronger rods and better pistons in it and have a higher compression ls1 with a better cam and intake and heads. But once I started tearing the engine down in my second story apartment to mention that quickly changed. What I found left me more than unhappy to say the least.
The block looks good still had cross hatches in the bore no ring ridge and no scratches. The scary the crank looks like someone let a beaver loose in the bottom end and it thought that rod journal 6 was a branch or something. So needless to say the crank is not good. The kicker is that the engine was assembled and had a extra crank that was given with the motor but that crank looked the same, and on the same rod journal. Me thinking okay they must have replaced the crank already. That was not the case so much for assuming lol. I have talked to a couple machine shops and they all have said that it can be fixed but in my mind thinking to have to speed that money to fix that old crank why not just put that money toward a stroke kit and make my ls1 a 383?

The place I am at now is what lower rotating assembly for the money is the best?

What Compression ratio should I shoot for and heads and cams to use?

And what supporting mods would I need? Like fuel system and anything else.

Thanks in advance

The stroker kit is going to eat up a lot of your budget. I started on the same path and ended up going with an lq4 long block setup. The stroker kit alone would have cost 2/3 what I paid for the assembled long block and would only net me a few more cubes.

Budget wise I mean I dont wanna cheap out but I definitely am not look to spend more than I need to. I want to be able to get into the car and be able to drive it whenever I want and it be reliable.

And I had thought about doing a 6.0 in the first place but unsure maybe ill end up there who knows im not apposed to it even with the added weight. I just know I dont want to deal with forced induction due to my lack of knowledge as of this point.

Whats a machined as in checked out every thing is good and has a fresh hone ls1 with a stock bore go for grated its a 98 block its worth something right? If I decided to go lq4 route whats the price there??? I know im looking at at least $2500 for a lower end as sits if not more probably a lot more lol.

Honestly if I were you I might just get rid of the damn thing and get a nice LQ4/LQ9 and assembly. Basically in my case that's what I did. I went through Thompson Motorsports for my setup and am very happy with it

Low 500s with an LS1 block NA is tough, even with a 4" stroke crank.

You can get a full rotating assembly with bearings balanced from TSP. K1 Crank, Compstar Rods, and Wiseco Pistons/Rings would be my choice. It's about $2400 or so for a 383. You can do 475 with a 383 and have a pretty streetable motor that can take some abuse.

I'd build it with a nitrous cam in mind and run it on the sauce. 250-300 shot and make good use of the limited bore and forged components.

Then you can go with some TFS As-Cast heads to keep it budget friendly.

I mean some where around 500hp im good with that and as for the sauce I dont want to mess with it having to refill all the time and im mainly just looking for a hopped up cruiser to me id never use it.

HCI2000SS How much was the that and what all did you get? What ball park power are you putting down?

I thinking I am going to run 243 heads and just have them worked over cause like ive said doesn't need to be a rocket ship I just want to be able to drive the car alot and have fun with it.

For the full forged rotating assembly and LQ9 block I paid right around $2500. That came with a one year warranty as well. I'm roughly 450 rwhp and 550 rwhp on the 100 shot

I sold my my LS1 block for $400

I'm running PRC stage 2.5/5.3 heads with 11.5:1 compression

Yes go to the forged 370 block on that page. That's what I got

What do you run for fuel? 93? and Im so far behind on all of this. I need to figure out what to do for a fuel system no idea where to even start there and Tune where do I start? I understand all the mechanics of the engine but ive never had to put a whole system together any pointers?

Also that lower end doesn't give any specs. You got the one thats not forged correct?

No like I mentioned earlier that it is forged. Diamond pistons with I-beam rods. I run 93 with a Racetronix 255 pump and hotwire kit and 42 lb injectors. The tune was done by a well respected LS tuner here in MI.

I highly recommend calling TMS. They will get you in the right direction. They had the best prices I could find at the time as well
