Default how do you pick the bearing size for a rod bearing replacement(rod knock)

Very light knock on my ws6. pulled the motor out and planning to rip it appart asap. ill be dropping off my crank and rod at the machine shop but i have a bit of a question of bearings.

according to my GM service manual,,,
crankshaft connecting rod journal diameter 2.0987 in. (production)
crankshaft main journal diameter 2.558-2.559 in. (production)

manual calls for
.0006-.00248 connecting rod bearing clearance (production)
.0007-.00212 crankshaft bearing clearance (production)

I would basically need a new bearings but how do i order the right size if I can only measure the clearance once i have the bearing and crank torque down using a plastiguage?

I noticed that I can get a standard bearing but also .01 ,.02 etc

If you are just swapping bearings, you should measure first, then order the bearings to get the clearance you want. Sometimes it requires mixing bearing sets.

The other option is to go right to a .010" under bearing, and then have the crank ground to the exact OD which will give you the clearance you want. This is done best with a micrometer and dial bore gauge.

Only if it isn't damaged and if you're going to be using the same brand if you go with an X or .001 under.
