Default combo questions 01 LS1

I'm starting to gather parts for a refresh/build on my 01 SS. I'm looking for HP guesses and input for cam specifics. I have a pretty good idea of what I think I want but I don't know as much as a lot of you.

So far I'm thinking of the following:

Quality rebuild on bottom end
AI 243's
FAST 92 or 101 (???)
EPS or LSL lobes 228/232 max .600 on a 112 or higher (early tq in mind)??
Comp Trunion upgrade on stock rockers
Springs? (suggestions please)

My biggest question is would the AI porting be wasted with this cam? I want a STREET car that's a blast to drive under 6k rpms but will still pull up there if I wind it up.

That's a nice overall grind but it won't be the best choice for all out performance.

The heads will be beneficial no matter the cam you select. Heads make power everywhere when done correctly.

That's okay with me. I'm wanting a very durable, reliable, low maintenance and FUN car. I'll sacrifice some of the all out power for the increased longevity and ease on the parts. I'm a firm believer in Fast, Cheap, Reliable... Choose TWO. I'll go with a little less "Fast" for this car.

A bigger cam shaft isn't going to render your motor less reliable. Well, as long as you don't go monster and throw the valve train together sloppy.

Also gearing and/or stall should be considered depending of your trans type

If you want a 228/232 I'd go with the streetsweeper HT, I've never not seen anyone happy with it, not to mention ever make bad numbers or disappointing track times (driver pending), easy on springs and easy to tune as well.

I would like gears, but I'd most likely go unconventional and use 3:73s with the 6 speed. What would be some hp/tq and track time guesses possible with the HT cam and AI 243's? I currently have Kooks 1 7/8 headers into a GMMG.

Dyno numbers really don't matter...the track does

What tire/rim setup and what raceweight?

555r tires 275/40/17 & 3400 lbs. I know the numbers shouldn't matter, but let's be real... they do a little.

Well sure to an extent but that's a given lol. My car is a great example...dynos anywhere from 400-420 n/a, and realistically should be around 450 rwhp. Now here's the thing...it runs like like it has every bit of 450 at the wheel. I've raced others to verify this

Any thoughts on the intake? My opinion would be to go straight to the big 102 and leave room for future increases. Any other opinions?

I plan to do AI 241s and will be picking up a 102 before year's end. Some will say it's overkill or too much of a hassle over the 92 but if you're trying to maximize your setup while not hurting your engine's longevity it would be my choice.

SSHT is a great cam, and as stated, I've yet to see anyone disappointed.

If money is a *bit* of an issue, just go with the 92. It's a great intake, as I can attest to. If you're trying to eek out every last bit, then go to the 102. You'll never second guess the induction system after that.

If you're dead set on an Ed Curtis grind, I'd simply tell Ed what heads you're going to run, and let him spec one that's completely optimized for your heads and your goals that you have in mind.

Trust me. You won't be disappointed.

The ssht,vrx4,pat g 228/230.tick 227/235 all gonna make around same power.with the ai heads and at least 11.0cr you should be in the 430-460rwhp.et wise I've seen 10.60-11.0 1/4 mile.those cams mentioned offers great drivability and power at any rpm.i think you will be happy with either.as long as you keep the duration around 220-230 on intake and around 230-235 on exhaust.
