Default Engine Main Cap installed backwards... what do I do?

I need some advice on my engine. I had a guy build my motor and he installed the rear main cap on backwards. So i pulled the cap to turn it around and it looks like there is some wear on the bearing. Could anyone tell me if this will be ok or do i need to put in new bearings.

That's probably ok, but I'd be more worried about how well he actually built it if he couldn't even install the caps on correctly.

The block was bored and honed. New cam bearings installed. I bought all the parts and had him install them. Stock crank, king bearings, scat rods, D.S.S Pistons and total seal rings.

i was wondering if it could have been line honed with the cap backwards.
was the engine run or just turned over by hand?

So should this be ok to use or should I replace the bearing?? Any advice would be helpful!

I would replace it myself. Think about how much money you already have invested in it as it sits, Then add in the time to put the motor in and pull it back out and any repairs that may be needed if there is a problem.
The cost of a new bearing sounds pretty cheap to me.

If it was align bored with the cap backwards<very hard to believe anyone could be that stupid> then you need to start over. If you pull everything back apart you will be able to put the caps in alone and look if they line up.

Replace the bearing with new and cross your fingers.

If this were my engine, I'd pull ALL the bearings to have a look.

Is that assembly lube or engine oil that was used?

I'd be more interested in what the clearances / bore shape / bearing crush is if you had it line honed.

More often than not, a line hone does more damage than good.

hmmm.... Maybe because he installed the main cap on backwards in the first place?

That depends on the machinist.

Looking close at that picture you can see that bearing is badly damaged.

There was still money exchanged (I assume). You don't reward incompetence by fixing the problem yourself. If there is doubt in his ability then the whole motor should be taken apart and checked for clearances, correct bearing orientation and such.

Looking at the parting faces of the caps, it doesn't look like the caps were cut.

I will not be taking it back to this guy again. I will fix it myself! Not rewarding his incompetence just learning from this and moving forward with the build.
