Default Valve Spring Recommendations

What are you 'BIG' cam guys using for valve springs? I need something that will handle high 600's to low 700's lift with 200-225lbs of seat pressure. Please tell me if longer valves are needed, what keepers and retainers are required, special machining..etc.

Thanks
Josh

I love the PP Golds, good to .650
I am not sure you are going to find anything reliable at the 700 end....

What type of cam are you running? With that much pressure you must be running solid roller. That much pressure is not needed with a hydraulic roller.

it can be done .....it just means he needs lots of spring pressure (more than needed so the springs are not "on the edge"), really light parts (makes life easier on everything), and to be willing to keep tabs on the spring life (pressure)....

I'm running an Isky spring (not the tool room spring but one level down...rated at 8000RPM for 800miles continuous) with my cam (its not very big but I plan to go solid roller in the not too distant future). I think it is something like 200lbs seat/410lbs open. I found that in order to get the 1.850" install height that the spring needed (I have Ferrera 6000 LS1 valves), I had to go with a Manley billet 10degree lock, a Manley titanium +0.100" retainer (to move my install height up from 1.750"), and then Manley billet 0.080" thick lash cap (to make the valve stem "longer" so that the rocker would have plenty of clearance around the retainer). This allowed me to get the install height without having to cut deep into the head and possibly weaken/crack the intake port. If I needed more than 1.850", I would go with a custom valve (I'm a big one for leaving lots of meat on the head/parts). Manley (and many others) will make valves in any length you want.

As a side note, I noticed Manley makes Titanium locks ......though I think to compare cost, the billet locks were $40 for 16 (a set) but the titanium locks were $124 for 16 (a set). Though not "that much more", its still kind of "3 TIMES THE COST!?!?!?"
