Default LS1 Stage II heads vs. LS6 Stage II heads

Is there really that big of a difference? Really, how much extra flow are we looking at? Does it warrant paying 500 more the the LS6 heads?

my vote = no

everything I have seen says ~10-15CFM more at most.......I figure the $500 can go to something else that will make more HP/looks/fun/etc....

I had a feeling that it was going to be close like that. Thanks, I can't believe that going cheaper on something might actually pay off.

If you were trying to make 5000000HP and wanted every 1/2hp you could get then yeah, the LS6 heads are the way to go. For most of use in life, we have a basic goal of what we want and want to get the most bang for the buck.

What cam are you going with?

Looking back on the things I have learned, for a stock CI (or +0.005" overbore "repiston") LS1 I would do a set of Absolute Speed stage 2 (2.02"/1.60" and matching port work) 5.3Liter heads unmilled and have really good valve springs installed (have the seats cut for larger dual springs). This will give you ~10.8:1 CR (which give good performance without having to worry about knock), good flow, and allow you to use "just about" any cam you want (the larger the valve and/or the more mill you do, the less clearance you have for duration and/or lift).

Right now I have a cam expert looking at a few different options for me. Pretty much off shelf, but if I can't find anything that matches really close I'm going to get a custom grind.

I agree w/all above ,spoke to the pro's at TSP & they said the same ,I guess 5.3 sounds small& turns people off ,they should change the name & theyll fly off the shelfs,I got the whole TSP 5.3H/c sittin & waitin to go in.
