Thumbs up Cam Motion LLR Low Lash Roller Street Cam Install With Dyno & Track Results

When I wanted a new camshaft I decided to go with Cam Motion. I had already worked out the specs that I wanted and called to discuss some technical details. After talking about my application with the owner, Kip suggested that I might like his new LLR solid low lash roller street cam instead of the hydraulic.

The idea is that you get all of the precision and valve train stability and RPM capability of a solid, with quiet, low maintenance operation for the street. Being an old school hotrodder, I had always preferred solids, so this had instant appeal to me. Saying yes to the Cam Motion Low Lash Solid Street Roller Cam is a choice that I am VERY glad that I made.

In this thread I will show the installation, before and after dyno comparison, dyno video and the track results from the first trip to the 1/4 mile.

It was like Christmas when Fed Ex delivered this box! Here is what was inside:

The guys at Cam Motion got me everything I needed for the install. From the cam to the head gaskets. It all came in one box and at good guy pricing too.

You pulled the trigger! Can't wait to see how you like it. I LOVE mine! What did your specs end up or are those top secret? ;-)

Here is the recipient getting ready for the install. As you can see, my 6 liter is a lot easier to work on than a fourth gen F-body.

I always love the energy in the air when you are getting ready to install cool stuff.

Nice!! I will ask this. How much you going to have in it going solid roller? I would imagine 2gs worth. I know when I build the next bullet it will be solid roller.

I just realized...how can you already have your pushrods? You will have to measure for proper length.

Looks to be one hell of a build. I'm looking forward to the side by side comparisons.

Yes I am sharing cam specs! No secret squirrel stuff here.

Here are the cam specs of the excellent cam to be replaced:

226/234 .598"/.612" on 110 installed +3

Now here the specs of the new cam:

235/247 .660"/.610" on 110.5+4

NOTE: These are solid cam specs, so when you factor out the .007" hot lash, this cam would have the valve events equivalent of a hydraulic cam with the specs of:
231/243 .653"/.603" on 110.5+4

No doubt. It was all so pretty I almost did not want to install it where nobody would be able to see it. LOL

You are roughly correct on the money depending on if you include the spring kit in the price. Cam, lifters, Adjustable Jesel Sportsmans, Tooley Platinum Duals.

I had them send a few sizes and I sent back the unused sizes. Who wants to wait when you are on roll? Not this guy. LOL I ended up using 7.375", but I think I could have used 7.4" and still been within range of the rockers adjusters.

When do you plan on having everything buttoned up? Sounds like it may be real soon.

What if the future was really the past?

Lets tear this thing down!

I completely understand waiting for pushrods and it stinks! lol I waited for mine but used link bar lifters so we had no idea where the length would come out. I just replaced my first low lash solid cam with another spec'd low lash solid for my turbo build. I had to order 8.500 pushrods and waited weeks for a thicker wall custom length. Finally got them in and hope to fire this thing up soon. I look forward to your results and feedback.

After 3 years of street cruising, drag racing and many bottles of nitrous on this stock LQ9 bottom end, I thought it would be prudent to do a leakdown test.

These LS engines continue to amaze. 2% leakdown on the best cylinder and 6% on the worst. If you can call that worst. Impressive:

While it was apart, I went through the heads, cleaned the carbon, relapped the valves.

Installed the new valves seals and installed the Tooley Racing Platinum Dual Springs Kit.
