LS6 or C5R block
Looking to start building a seperate motor in my garage and wanted to get some opinions on what block I should use for the set up, a Ls6 or C5r block? Not sure of what displacement I'm gonna go with yet 383, 396, 408, or 427. I think I might want a blower on it too. I just want some opinions from the masses on what block they would use and why.
Mmmmmmm...newww engine!

i've got the same issue, altho i think i have a little more time to contemplate...if i get the gig i'll have at least a year to think about it(albeit in iraq). the ls6 block afaik isn't much different then your stock ls1, however the c5r is worlds apart. its also $6k. for the bare block. you might want to wait a little while, as the new Z06 is supposedly going to have a 427 c5r-type motor in it...the blocks should be comparable? might drop the price a bit, but the new z06 doesn't hit the floors til mid-2006 i beleive? all things to consider. also, afaik the new ls2 uses a 6.0L aluminum truck block.

If you have the money, I would go with the C5R block over any of the blocks you mention.
The new C6 Z06 has a lot of rumor circulating about engine displacement and power. If you have the time to wait, then it may be worth it, but the odds are against the Z06 being a 427ci right now. The common consenses is a 6.4L with 3 valve heads and a 7.0L has been rumored as of late. The 6.4L is said to be a stroked LS2 block with new heads and I haven't heard a thing about what the 7.0L would be(larger bore, longer stroke or a combo of both).

Depends on how much power/RPMs you're going to be making. I'd start seriously thinking C5R when the power gets above about 800 RWHP or the RPMs get higher than 8500-9000. That's just my impression.

your right, resale may be a strong word in this hobby...maybe more desirable would be a better term for the C5-R block...which should be worth a buck or two more...
BTW, your sig is priceless

If your going to boost it I'd go with the C5R. The LS1/LS6 has a lot of head lifting issues with boost. I think the main reason the Lingenfelters hold up is because they are C5R's.
