Default Got car apart for head/cam, should i install a new timing chain??

So ive got the car apart and the motor on a stand for heads/cam, ive got the ported LS6 oil pump, just trying to take preventative measures....the longblock i bought is used but only has 30,000 miles on it and is VERY clean....should I go ahead and install a new timing chain like a double roller or something? which one would you reccomend? I am going to be running the TSP 225 cam and PP stage 2 race series 5.7 heads. Cam specs are 225/225 .589/.589 112+2lsa. thanks!

i dont see a new chain being needed if you know thats the mileage...but i will say this the stock ls1 chains are notorious for a ton of slack. I personally hear to many issues with double rollers and would assume a single roller would do a fine job.

I'd go with a double roller. It's much stronger and will probably outlast your motor.

It's just extra insurance if you have the extra $$ to do it.

I agree with Canninbal. If you have the motor out and you're in there anyway, change it with a double roller. It will be a lot easier to do it now than in the car later.

I did my H/C swap at 45k. I bought another stocker but when it came down to it I didnt want to drop the pan so I left the original chain. So far Ive got hundreds of passes and 79k and so far so good. If you have the time and motovation, it probably wouldnt be a bad idea to change it. Personally I would put another stocker on. My .02

Never take chances, if the car had 1000 miles, always start with new components. " DO IT RIGHT THE FIRST TIME, IT'LL COST YOU LESS LATER"

I'd change it, at least for another stocker.
