Default cam suggestion please

Hello everyone, I am in the process of building an LQ4 408 stroker. I'm looking for a street friendly cam that makes good power and torque from low rpm up to about 6,500 rpm. This will be a weekend car that will see mostly street driving with very limited racing at the track. I'm looking for something that is an easy tune, dependable and can go cruise 250 to 300 mile trips occasionally. Now the specs of my setup:

2001 ws6 ram air t/a
LQ4 408 stroker Eagle 4340 forged crank
-4 Mahle flat top pistons/11.5:1
Eagle h beam forged rods
799 heads stage 2.5 tsp, .650 dual springs
LS6 intake/stock throttle body (for now)
42# bosch injectors
1-7/8" long tubes
TSP 3" Y-pipe w/3" exhaust
Built 4l60e/3000 stall (want to stay with 3000 stall for now)
Stock rear end 3.73 upgrade

I really need some help with the cam setup, it's the last piece of the puzzle for now. I have read and read so many posts trying to gather information until my head hurts night after night. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for looking at my post.

Have you talked to some of the vendors on here?

I have talked with TSP a little. I'm thinking a custom grind might be my best option.

239/247 .624"/.624 114+4 would be my suggestion. It'll make power everywhere and be a good driver. In fact, I just noticed Vengeance stocks this as a shelf grind (Comp LSL lobes): http://vengeanceracing.net/vengeance...624-114-4.html

Here an engine dyno with LS6 heads on a 408 with that cam in Red. Blue is a set of stock LS1 heads.

I'm doing a more aggressive version that's essentially a 247/255 .650" 114+3 in my 416. An 8 degree split is a good split for stock type castings with about 70% int/exh flow ratio.

To help you out - a good rule of thumb is to add 8 degrees of duration for every 50cid added to your motor. So, let's say you like the way a 228 cam drives... a 408-346 = 62cid. Therefore, you'd need to roughly add 10 degrees for the 408, which would be around a 238 degree intake lobe.

Now you can see why I think the above cam would do well for you with the 3000 stall as the 239/247 would drive like a ~229/237 in a 346. And that's a pretty good sweet spot for a 346 in terms of balanced power delivery and streetability.

I spoke with Martin @Tick Performance, he recommended 238/242 .625/.610 114+2. I ordered it today!

Sounds great. The cam that Martin created for you is perfect in my opinion.
