Talking Good replacement timing chain for a 5.3 with 150K miles?

Fiance's dad uses his 1500 for towing horses around. 2001 truck (5.3L) has almost 150K miles. Since I know these timing chains aren't the best (i've seen some stretched out ones in the past ), I suggested it may be a good idea to do a chain at this point

Whats a good overall replacement (guessing I should do timing gears too since I have to pull the oil pump) ?

I think the double chain I run in my TA is a bit overkill

JWIS.
No need to change gears unless damaged.

The gears also wear as the chain stretches. Brian, you can pick up the Rollmaster single timing set for about $70. The Jwis and Katech are $150 for just the chain.

The heat-treated double-roller Rollmasters have been coming with the Jwis chain lately and aren't expensive at all. Prob about a 2.5-3 hour job on a truck for you.

Stock GM is a good replacment I have yet to have an issue with one. It is good and light weight no need for overkill as you said.

i think the single chain stretches more than a double....but with 150K on the clock this motor is like 93-year-old Ron Reagon with Alhemerzs - hey neither one can last foreever....

So pick your poison and hope for the best....

the motor shows no ill problems at all. I'm suggesting to do the timing chain as preventative maintanence. You have to remember...this motor isn't hotrodded at all. It just pulls around a trailer down the highways. Hwy mileage isn't hard on motors at all typically

I've got a 91 olds with the 3.1 with 218K miles and it don't use a drop of oil and runs hella good!!! By your analogy...that would make it a 135 year old and still healthy enough to run a 10K race on any given weekend

I'm just going to do a new stocker with new gears.

Brian, talk to JTSS if you are going to go with the stocker. Otherwise, get the single rollmaster. It comes with the chain and both gears.
