Question Z06 cam springs near coil bind? Help pls.

I am using an '02 Z06 cam and springs into the #241 heads. The machine shop called me and said the stock gross cam lift of .550 would put the springs at 0.030" to coil bind ( spec around 0.060" max ). I assume the "blue" cam springs are the correct Z06 models. The plastic spring cups are about the thickness of the missing lift gap. Are the cups required due to the heads being aluminum? I don't remember seeing them on my #862 truck heads.
Anyone heard of this? I would really hate to drop a valve into a freshly stroked motor. Any help is appreciated!

Blue springs? Sounds like you are trying to use 01 LS6 springs. You need to use 02+ LS6 springs with a 02 LS6 cam. Max lift on the 01 LS6 cam was .525.

Thanks, 2x.
This is probably where my missing 0.030" is. Anyone got some 918 Comps lying around or good suggestions? I may go with a different cam later so might as well get prepared now.

But I think the installed height of the spring is the same. That would be determined by the location of the keeper grooves on the valve stem, the installed height of the valve, and the thickness of the spring seat, not the length of the valve.

I have a set of 918's with titanium retainers that I'm going to sell. They have about 4000 miles on them. Put the cam in last summer with the springs, got new heads this spring with Crane duals on there. So not many miles or heat cycles on them. PM or respond in here if you're interested.

Ive never seen coil bind on stock springs with a z06 camshaft.

Ive got about 30 total vehicles from our shop with 02 Z06 cams in stock 4.8/5.3/6.0L trucks with stock springs, and several ls1 cars with z06 camswaps with stock springs, some with as much as 50k since installation. Zero problems.

You can run approx .550 lift safely on stock ls1 valvesprings. Plus ive NEVER seen a stock valvespring fail, where as aftermarket springs fail alot.

Thanks all for the info! I had a brain fart, actually had the 01' LS6 cam and springs. After talking to my brother ( the one I am building for ) and he wants to try out the 01' stuff first to see how it runs. Maybe in the future we'll swap out for something more aggressive.
