Default Can someone tell me about where this cam will peak at?

It's a comp cam, I had the grind number at work but forgot to bring it home. I don't know what lobes were used.

221/225 .619/.596 114 LSA w/ -4.4 degrees overlap.

It's in a customers car that we tuned. The cam swap was done buy another shop and IMO it peaked really really early. The cam was spec'd from a site sponsor. I called the vendor to ask them a few questions and was blown off.

The cam is in a stock LS1 w/ a LS2 intake, 90mm DBW T/B and block hugger headers.

The customer inquired about what to do to gain more power but I want to verify where that cam should make peak power at before we go any further.

Thanks.

J

Well.. my guess would be around 6k maybe? Unless you speak to whoever spec'd it, & everything is the same, I would say, to get a definitive answer, get it on a dyno for a baseline.

One thing I have learned, in my opinion, would be to choose a cam knowing what mods the engine will have & what you want. As an example my power peaked at around 5800. Changing just the exhaust, & adding a vacuum pump, now it peaks around 6200.

Kind of really off topic, what ever happened to your EPS/ TEA car? It laid down nice numbers for a slipping clutch.

It's been on our dyno. It peaked at 5k.

After I had it dyno'd I found out the machine shop installed the valve springs at the wrong height so I had valve float.

Fixed that then the clutch went out. The car sat for a while. Replaced the clutch and the car ran really good.

The Comp cam I had suffered from being soft and started wearing the lobes down.

When I pulled the engine I found that the "redone" TEA heads I had bought off here had completely worn out valve guides( I found the reason it was burning so much oil)

Got pissed off and put the stock heads/cam/intake back on the car. I'm planning on sending the heads to TEA this winter to have them redone this winter and going with a little larger EPS cam or a cam from Brian Tooley.

5K is low. That almost sounds like it's off by a tooth. Is it torquey as hell? Able to push the timing much?

pretty low duration, that should definatly push the powerband earlier

I thought about it being off a tooth also.

Not really touquey.

Timing set at 26. It was "tuned" at another shop and had 34 degree's in it.....

We initially pulled the timing back to 25 and went from there. The engine was happiest at 26.

The LS1 has been swapped into a Jeep w/ a 4l60E ,4.56's, 35' tires, Dana diff's.

I wasn't that concerned with the power that it put down(Mustang Dyno)as I was that it peaked at 5k.

If it was off, I'd think you'd have detonation. If you're getting 26 degrees it's probably ok. I would think it would peak closer to 6k.

In the past I had a 224 duration cam peaking at 5500 and it was off. Detonated like a SOB though and was very torquey from 2500-4000
