Default rod bolt questions

I currently have a tsp torquer v3 cam with a ls6 intake and am planning on doing the tsp as cast 225 heads this winter and was curious about rod bolt replacement. I believe I seen that the kaytech rod bolts do not need any modifications? how many people have switched there rod bolts out and what brands and success do you have

Most will tell you, using an aftermarket rod bolt, it needs to be honed. Some have even seen the factory rod bolts put it out of round. Whatever route you choose, you must check it, and hone if needed.

Id leave the rod bolts alone unless you plan to resize.

If you're determined to do it the big end needs to to be honed, there's over size bearings for honed rods.
Pretty sure the Katech rod bolts are no longer available.
Only the early only motors had questionable rod bolts, I forgot exactly which years but the info is on here.

well I'm pulling the motor to paint the engine bay so I figured while it was out id do the rod bolts if it was worth it I like the piece of mine if its something that could be issue. You say the earlier ones had problems I'm not sure if mine would be considered a earlier one or not since its a 99

I used Katech rod bolts when I rebuilt my motor ~40,000 miles ago. I did not have the rods resized (stock LS6 rods), Katech stated rod resizing was not required...ARP states resizing is needed.

Katech Rod bolts are no longer available.

You should check the rod size during a rebuild any way. Myself as well as others have found that Even before you change the bolts out, Some are within spec and some are slightly over.

The thing with the Katech bolts was that as long as the engine was healthy, you could replace the bolts in the vehicle without any i'll effect. They had a stronger clamping load as well weighed around the same as the bolts they were replacing so it would not affect the balance.

That being said, how many cars have the rod bolts fail? You usually you see the connecting rod bend or break before the bolts let go.

I agree with the others. I would leave them alone unless you plan on pulling the setup apart to get the rods checked and re-sized if needed.
