when you reset it it goes back to 100% efficiency basically...now depending on your driving habits ie rpm fluxuation during a givin timeframe, startups blah blah blah it calculates the efficiency of the oil...if you start your car twice a day 5 days a week and then drive at 2000rpms for an hour and lets say rack up 70miles each way a day thats gonna be alot less wear then if someone started the car 16 times a day and drove 8 miles of city traffic between startups...basically same mileage but different rpm ranges and such. Some might make it 6000 miles before it pops up to change it some 1000 if you dragrace with the car every other day so its all about your habits not the mileage generally.

All I got to ask is are you running a Fram oil filter?
If you are that the problem they resrict oil at start up thus triggering the light, had the problem with my Z71 all the time till I switched filter brands.
