Rebuilt ls1 can't get oil pressure.
I rebuilt my ls1 and now when trying to prime it won't even attempt to pull oil from the filter when cranking with the plugs out. I took the side plate above the filter and nothing filters still full. Oil pump o ring is good. Front freeze plug is good. Oil pump is new and the barbell is in the back of the block. What could cause this. Only thing I can figure is I "could" have the barbell in backwards or the relief valve is stuck in the new pump. Anybody got any other ideas. I'm afraid I'm gonna destroy it cranking. I also tried with the oil pan off after changing the o ring to hold a pan of oil over the pick up tube to see if it would shoot out the oil filter hole in the block and it pulls zero oil through the pump. It's like they're no suction at all coming from the pump

did you put any kind of assembly lube, grease or oil on the pump gears before install? they wont really suck any oil if bone dry. cranking really isnt enough RPM to prime a pump unless its some crazy high volume pump. if you got assembly lube on everything you could try firing it for a couple secs to see if it gets pressure. fill up the oil filter so it takes less time to build pressure. OR the smart thing would be to pull one of the oil galley plugs and manually pump oil through engine before starting.

i don't really see what could be the issue with it because my 408 got oil pressure in 5 seconds cranking. This is a stock replacement pump I shimmed the spring in and I did just wet the gears with oil.

Get an extra oil block plug and drill/tap it for 1/8 npt then hook up a drill pump or hand pump to it and fill the passages with oil. Then fire it off . Worth the effort now so nothing is damaged .
