Default Detonation - 55cc heads

I have some CNC bigger valves and 55cc heads. I get detonation when the converter locks up in over-drive around 50 mph. Would reducing compression or is there a way to tune out the detonation while cruising. I get 0 detonation with the converter unlocked, so may be it is the increased load?

any help would be appreciated!

1) Bigger cam or tighter LSA to bleed off some compression
2) Higher octane fuel
3) Pull timing
4) Colder thermostat(160)

Thx, I am getting a 232-236 114 cam installed thursday. I recently got a 160 stat which has brought the temps to ~180. I will have it reprogrammed when the cam goes in!

Raise the lockup MPH. By my calculations you would be around 1500rpms at that speed. Try to get it to lock up at 1800rpms or higher. If you need to travel around 40-60mph just keep it in 3rd that is what I do because I had the same problem.

Are you sure it's detonation? It might be chatter from the lockup clutches.

I would be willing to put money that its detonation. The heads probably yeild 12.3:1 Compression with a small cam....
