Yes, go to autozone they sell the OEM style helicoil kit for $30

You'll need the right drill bit size, the kit will tell you what size you need.

Should take 10 min to fix

It is very important that you get this new hole and threads straight. Otherwise, the retainer bolt will be at an angle and the head will be side loaded. That will eventually lead to a failure.

Use a drill press for the new hole, and a tap guide for the new threads.

Is the torque wrench calibrated and what is the range on the torque wrench? The bolts sound like they were over tightened at one point. Since it is only one head and it is remanufactured, it may have been the prior owner that cause damage to the head.

I would not use a helicoil. Get a Timesert or Keysert and install that. I have seen way too many helicoils pull out of aluminum especially when there is a load force on them.

This. It's not 1970.

Helicoils are junk.

For the price of fixing the stripped holes you honestly could get a used head for free and just slap it on there. A head gasket, some head bolts, and a header gasket is probably cheaper than spending time drilling out the holes and helicoiling them and praying they stay in the head. I'd just replace the head since it doesn't take too long.

Are you for real? Lol

A properly installed time-sert is not coming out and takes 5 minutes.
