I would like to hear camshaft recommendations...
Hello fellow LS1 Tech members, I have been a member here for a while and seems like I am ready to pull the trigger into installing a "better than stock" camshaft. I am doing this since my car does not get driven that much anymore.
My car is a 1999 Pontiac Trans Am with just some bolt ons. I am looking for a camshaft that improves on power, has an idle that is noticeable but not that aggressive and that would allow me to cruise around town and once in a while perform good at the track.
Current mods are:
LS6 Intake
Lid with K&N Filter
Full Length Pacesetter Headers
True Duals with CAT/Mufflers deleted
HP Tunners Programming
160 Thermostat
Any advice is welcomed, I am also looking into replacing springs and push rods.

Depends on Transmission, Drivability Tolerance and Goals.
You can see in my signature I wanted a stealthy cam and still need to pass emissions. Others may not need to pass emission and want it more aggressive. Although I am very happy with my set up a 224 would be perfect. I wanted something better than stock without a completely different drivability feeling. Mine has a slight idle but you have to listen for it but when you stomp on it, the car pulls hard, way better than stock.
224 to 228 seem to be the choice off the shelf but with an auto trans you will have to consider a stall. My set up is on a stock stall although I will be going to a 2800 stall to take advantage of the set up and rest my braking foot .

Just finished my custom cam install from cammotion. 231/235 112+3 and so far nothing but from me, very similar to the tick performance sns v2. Much quieter valve train compared to the comp cam that came out even though the lift is higher and the cam is slightly larger. Definetly get in contact with the vendors on here and they will steer you in the right direction.

I'd recommend converter before cam. You'll get about the same amount of performance as just doing a cam 1st. Plus it will set you up for a slight bit more aggressive cam that will work with the bigger converter later on. Of course, Fun factor goes way up when you have both.
Best advice is to talk to companies like TSP, Tick, BTR etc. They will help you get set up with a combo that works for you.

Don't be afraid to give reverse split cams a look. For stock heads and ls6 intake, they're a great match imo. I have a thread open now with some decent discussion, and there are plenty others that have results and discussions on theirs as well.
Definitely worth looking into.
Otherwise, determine what your goals are, and what your priorities are. Do you want it to be torque rich down low, hp rich up top, just want it to sound badass? determine future goals (nitrous??). converter, daily driven? etc. the more info you share, the better people on here can help you!

I have an EPS 226/234 in my car and I love it. Geoff was awesome in helping me pick a cam for my needs. I recommend you give him a call and spend some time talking about you expectations then let him recommend something.
Also, as mentioned above, if you haven't upgraded the torque converter you need to do that before you upgrade the cam.
