Default LS2 Timing Chain/Oil Pump Seal

So I finally got in the garage today and installed a tsp 235/240 cam for my ls1 rx7 swap. While I was in there, I replaced the LS1 timing chain with a LS2 chain. The LS2 chain appears to have roughly the same amount of slack as the factory chain, perhaps a little bit more. Is a dampener necessary? I was considering the dampener that is convertible to fit the LS1 block without having to tap/thread the block. Is installing a dampener even necessary since the ls1 did not come with one from factory?

Also, my motor is out of a 2002 camaro ss; I have read that the 01+ LS1 came factory with the LS6 oil pump without the earlier ls1 oil pump o-ring. When I removed my oil pump, I found there WAS an o-ring around the base of the oil pickup tube that had crumbled to pieces. Is this right? I was under the impression the ls6 pump did not have this o-ring. Is it worth replacing the rubber, or should I just go with a high volume pump at this point?

Thanks in advance

I've never seen a LS oil pump that did not have an O-ring so get one to replace the destroyed one or upgrade to a Melling pump. Clean out the oil pan of any debris. You will need to tap the holes in the block so you can use the LS2 chain damper and yes, you need it.

I REALLY don't want to tap the block. I was thinking this might be a good compromise? http://www.summitracing.com/parts/tfs-30675600

Not to argue, but I don't understand why GM did not include a factory damper if slack is such a big potential issue

A lot of people use that without any problems... Tapping the block is not a big deal, but if you are afraid to do it, then the Trick Flow bracket is the way to go.

Thanks. I found a damper that should work with the existing threads...if that doesn't work I'll consider tapping. I've read that there isn't much material on the block to work with when tapping, that makes me nervous.
