Default Best sleeper cam with biggest gains?

Hey guys.. i have been doing a lot of searching on cams lately and i am considering putting one in my car this winter.. I was sort of thinking of getting one that was a sleeper and couldn't really tell there was a cam in my car.. I was wondering if there was a nice cam out there like that where i could see around 30+ HP gains.. Or would it just be better to go all out and get something big? Let me know your opinions, your set ups, and where you bought everything.. Also.. Did you have to upgrade your springs and rocker arms? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

You'll find most people are going to tell you to go big I think. Me, I'm looking for the same thing you are. The Stealth I, and Stealth II are both pretty nice. There's a vid somewhere on site of one idling. The B1 and C1's are also a good buy. GL on your purchase.

The LS6 cam is a good sleeper. It's virtually undetectable. If used with 1.8 Rockers you'll get your 30 rwhp gain.

MTI also released a series of Stealth cams. I haven't seen those used first hand though, so I can't tell you too much about those.

I'm in the process of ordering a set of MTI 5.3 2E (58cc) and SSII 224/220, .581/.581 116 lsa.
This cam is very stealthy with plenty low Trq and rivals some bigger cams on top. Capable of 6800 rpm and can deliver a good 420rwhp with the right bolt ons.
Colonel on this forum runs 11.2 N/A (last time I checked). Very wicked for an almost stock idling cam

lift is your friend. His best friends are strong pushrods, springs and lifters

Where would i find the stealth 1 and stealth 2 cams? who sells them? and i hear a lot about the 224 cam? where do you guys buy all these? And the one that colonel is running the 11.2's on has a .581 lift and is stealthy? If i could just find one that made some noise i'd be alright with that.. but i don't want it super noitceable.. the less noticeable with the most gains is what i'm lookin for.. so if you guys would tell me some sites to check them out at i'd appreciate it! Thanks

http://www.motorsporttech.com/fbody_engine01.asp - That is the link to MTI's website where you can find their Stealth I and II cams.

http://www.thunderracing.com/catalog...22&sid=88#P196 - That is the link to Thunder Racing's website where you can find their 224 cams.

If you use the Search I think you can find the thread that Colonel created that contained a soundclip of his Z28 that uses the Stealth II cam.

I have the SII untuned and on cold start it wants to die but hangs on. Smooth driving , stock like shake at the lights when idling. Once warmed up it idles fine.

My rev limiter is set at 6200 and it seems to pull right up. Im hoping it pulls hard up to 6600 when I get the limiter removed. I did headers and ewp at the same time so Im not sure of the gain with just the cam .

That cam will pass emissions even in Cali. it has a negative overlap of -10
The 116 lsa is what does it.
It is a good cam only because of its reverse split which helps on the 201 intake size of the LS1 heads. Of course it will make much more power with bigger heads. It also like N20 up to a 150 shot max.
There is a soundclip on the site on a Vette with headers.

What formula are you using to determine it's emissions status?

Care to share the logic of your first sentence?

Where do you get these numbers from? I'm sure I'm not the only one wondering...

(int. DUR+Exh DUR)/2 - (2 x lsa)= degree of overlap.

While positive degree of overlap will make more power +/- 2 hp per positive. That means you'll be running a very tight lsa and your exhaust gases will be contaminated with unburned fuel. Not to mention it will idle a lot rougher especialy with A4 (my case)

Reverse split (more intake Duration) will allow the int. valve to stay open longer an compensate for the lower intake flow volume of a smaller port head (ie 201 for stock ls1). This brings in a bigger charge in your combustion chamber that will make a bigger bang and more power.

Where do you get these numbers from? I'm sure I'm not the only one wondering...
As stated above bigger charge in CC + N20 is even more power. But this is only true to about 150 +/- shot since with N20 the cylinder pressures rise tremendeously and therefore exit quicker. Eventually the volume of the charge will require longer time to exit and that calls for longer Exhaust duration. Hense 150+ N20 cams tend to favour bigger splits on the exhaust side.

Another good stealth cam that has not gotten a whole lot of press is our 215/220 cam. It has high intake lift to offset the low intake duration, makes good power and idles like stock. Here is a link to the dyno.

"Old Man Cam"

I am pretty sure these numbers came from an A4 Vette.

I used to run the LPE GT2-3. It was the perfect sleeper.
