383, 408 or a 418 decisions decisions....
I'm having a issue with my 25k ls1its blowing smoke and building enough crank case pressure to blow the passenger side valve cover gasket off and shoot oil everywhere when I stab the throttle..I just got off the phone with tsp and I'm looking into their 383 forged stroker kit because I'm going to be spraying 150/200 shot...I have a Vengance racing ported fast 102 tsp prc 2.5 5.3 heads 60cc and the ms4 cam how well will all that work with a 383 stroker kit?? Should I get a custom grind nitrous cam or will it be fine to reuse? I also have access to a 6.0 lq9....how well would the 6.0 do with a 408 or 418 stroker kit with my heads cam and intake? Can I reuse my timing chain oil pump ect? I've been told to upgrade the lifters to ls7s and get new lifter trays...just trying to decide what route to go....I just spent 10k on a 4l80e swap moser 12 bolt full suspension rims tires nitrous outlet kit ect this car is killing me so I'm trying to save some money where I can I just don't want to have any regrets

Id go with a 383.. with room to grow just incase u got to rebuild later on down the road.. but if u got funds go with the 408 and dont look back.. do it right the first time

Sorry to hear man. The only thing I didn't re-use, going to a 383, was the camshaft & lifters. Your MS4 will work. I would say to get a custom cam with whatever you choose to go with. Keep us posted.

Subscribing to see what's recommended. I am trying to decide on my future build since my ls1 is at 128k.. interested to see recommendations.. I was leaning more towards 408 due to cost savings over the aluminum 383 with more cubes and more power/torque capability. Sounds like the 408 is an extra 100 lbs in the nose.. could offset that a little with lightweight k-member, a-arms, etc.. but more money which I don't have lol

I've seen quite a few people mention the same thing so it must not be too bad. Any other downfalls you have noticed with an iron block? Handling, car riding lower in front, under hood temp increase, driveability, etc? From what I've read it really seems to be the way to go for power and durability.

I'm running a 408 and yes it's a bit heavy on the nose but that can be taken care of with weight reduction, moving battery, etc. I used to have my suspension set up nicely for the street, but ever since I put that added weight in the nose, I have been struggling to get my shocks dialed in.
I do regret running 2.5 ls6 heads in my 408. They are too small, and with the heavy valves in them, I couldn't spin my car to 6500 without haveing valve float.
I am just going to run the car as is for a few years and slowly collect parts for a turbo build. If I could, I would totally build this motor differently. Learning experience

I wonder if the right heads and cam would be the make or break for the 383 vs 408/418? Probably need to make sure to go with the right set up on the 408 to ensure there's enough power to make up for that 100 lbs..
I am lowered now so I'm guessing I'd need to lose the lowering springs with the added weight?
