Default Update: Cam Swap

I have a few weeks on my LQ4 with the new cam...I installed the Texas Speed MS4, Springs and Push-Rods into my "stock un-touched" 6.0
Very PLEASED with the results so far...LQ4, 650 Carbed, Holley Intake, 1 3/4" headers, PowerGlide (5500 stall), 4.30 gears, 28" tall tire, 3010#
still playing with timing and the launch rpm's, but best et so far 11.33 @119.7 from 12.05 @ 110......................only from the cam change, and racing in 90 degree weather. I currently have the 317 heads on, but will change to the 243's.

With that big of a stall I assume this is an all out race car? Nice times.

Just send your 317's to Advanced Induction for their 232cc CNC program. I think they would do nicely with this engine combination and that stall.

That's a nice improvement. I think you would see a nice improvement if you put a bigger carb on it too. I could understand the 650 if it were a manual street car, but with an auto and that loose of a converter, I would have at least a 750 on there.

He said it was 3010#.

And I also think being closer to ~11.5:1 static compression would help everything.

Yes, total Bracket Drag Car only, would like to get the compression up to 11 11 1/2 range. Woulld also like to see some mid 10's eventually. I can take another 350# out of the car too. I will change the converter to a 4500 and swap the carb to at least a 750 alky for next season.

My original front bumper weighs 60# rear is 50# a fiberglass frt/rr are 4# each and cost $125 each, the front wheel and tire combo is 52# each (steel rallies and Sportsman fronts), I bought some Convo Pros with Front Runners for $200, and they weigh 12# each, the doors have a 48# crash bar in each side, and there's a few misc. brackets here and there to cut off from the engine compartment. And I can stand to loose 25 or so.

Nice. I have a soft spot for Vega's!
Had a few in my day.
Must be a 74 or later with the 5mph bumpers?

Got a photo?

A 4777 carb complete with choke plate still intact.
An AED 750 on a tapered spacer and a point of compression would put
You into the 10.80s with ease

I'm definitely interested in trying a larger carb, not too much room for a spacer with the stock hood.

Without the choke tower might have a smidge more room for just a 1" Super Sucker

I've used this one for 5-600 hp apps
