Default Can I install cam bearings with rotating assembly in motor?

I'm building a 5.3 iron engine, pulled the stock cam and bearings look questionable... how difficult or is it possible to replace cam bearings with the rotating assembly assembled in the block? motor is on a engine stand.

yeah they all look like that. like even after 5000 miles. I dunno if it's the extra spring pressure needed to keep heavy-*** hyd. rollers on the lobes or what...they just all look nasty. google around, it's real common.

post some pics tho in case we're not on the same page.

The front one always looks like ****, I figure its from the timing chain constantly tugging the front of the cam.

@ls1charged, I'm in the middle of a cam swap myself and my bearings look identical to what you posted. It's been a few years now since you did it, how'd it all hold up?

I’ve never been much for superstition but I refuse to look at my cam bearings.

Haha I've read in quite a few forums not to look at them. Too bad I didn't read it before I actually looked at them! This is my first time tearing into a LS so I was just trying to be diligent. I know the oil pressure was always great and the car I pulled it out of ran like a top so I think I'll be fine.

Yea I've put about 12k miles on it since cam install, zero issues with oil pressure or anything else, oil always comes out clean.... Did I mention the car is boosted lol
