Loud ticking
Hey guys. I built a ls1 for my 68 Camaro. When I start it all is good. Once it warms up it gets a loud ticking noise. I pulled the engine out and took it apart to see what was going on. I found that the drive for the oil pump was rubbing the oil pump housing. I shimmed it wrong the first time. I corrected the problem and put the engine back in. Well I started it up and all was good, until it warmed up. The ticking noise is still there. I checked the preload on the lifters and they have .075 preload. Could that be too much? The noise sure sounds like the valve train problem. I am at a loss and not sure what to do. I can't seem to get this car up and running. Any help would be much appreciated.

I think I'd start by trying to pinpoint the location of the noise with a stethoscope. Tearing the engine apart without knowing where the noise is coming from is a bit radical. You can buy a mechanics stethoscope at most parts stores for about $15.00. Having an experienced mechanic look at the car would also be a good idea. A good mechanic can identify many engine problems by the sound they make.

Possibly a collapsed lifter???? Or maybe an exhaust leak????
