Default Oil filter bypass on LS1 pan.

Whats the best way to remove/plug this? I believe mine is old and bypassing oil. I’d prefer it didn’t since I run elevated oil pressures anyway.

I believe they are press fit in place. Just press it out and replace it with a solid plug of the same diameter.

Anyone know the best method of removal and what size solid plug I'd use to replace it?

The first question (in my mind) is what makes you think it's not working correctly? If the oil filter has oil in it, and it's getting up to temp properly, then the bypass is fine, I would think.

I have found metal in areas there shouldn't be. Like the turbo bearing. Which is being fed post filter and shouldn’t have aluminum bearing material in them… yet some is sneaking by. Same with the mains after a season of racing I think more material is getting bypassed than should.

It's something I wish to eliminate, since I run elevated pressures. The system is not longer factory and no longer functions as it was designed to IMO.

Did you try pushing on the valve with a small screwdriver and see if the spring is still good, or if it's stuck?

It's fine to remove it, most filters have pressure bypass valves anyway.

Seems to be working ok... But it's an unknown pan. I'd run a filter with no bypass.

Yeah it looks ok. But it's okay to remove it if you want to. As far as how to remove it, I've never tried so I can't help you. I'd just start trying to pry it out and maybe drill it and break it into pieces if that doesn't work.

Hi,
We have the Bypass Delete plugs.
http://www.saccitycorvette.com/BilletBypassPlug.html

You have to remove the oil filter adapter and then pry it out. The right size easy out will help. Get it to lock
in and twist and pull.

And since the are worried about unfiltered oil getting into the system we
also have the precision fit Billet Barbell that keeps unfiltered oil out and improves oil flow.
Here is a link with more info and videos.

Thank you,
Christian
