Have decided to go ahead with the LS3 from Thompson Motorsports....They had the best price on them...My son wants to buy my LS1 for a project engine for something he is going to build...So it all worked out pretty good..

What about a LS7 block. Doesn’t it have a longer cylinder that would be easier on pistons at the bottom of the stoke if you were installing a 4” or 4.125” stoke crankshaft.

Why not just go with Shafiroff then? LS3 is more than I need for the goal I originally posted..

LS7 is also 1300 more. If you want 650rwhp, then yes, you need the LS7 block or a resleeved block or aftermarket block because you need a 4.125" bore or more. But for 550-600rwhp, you can do it cheaper with the LS3.

That sounds good. I have a new LS3 block from Summit and I'd like to build a 416 this year for an eventual replacement and my goal? ..... 575rwhp

Ls3 is a pretty darn good "budget" block.

575 can be done. TEA/TFS 245s, MMS 235s, Frankenstein TFS 237s, or the TFS LS3 255s or MAST 255s can all get you there. PRCs are also good for the money.

I think for cathedrals, I'd do the TEA 245s touched by Brian Tooley since they are so track proven. Or I'd go to Mamo and have him work a set of TFS 255s.

Of course, the MAST heads are awesome and are essentially using the LS7 configuration with an LS3 intake manifold. So there's definitely some good choices in the 4.070" bore range.

That's what Im trying to decide on now...Rect port or cath.....Rect def flow better in stock form...but intakes are easier and cheaper with cath port heads...Whichever I end up getting, Im going to get Pat G to spec a cam for it

Every Pat G cam I've read up on run 10s in the quarter. They was all motor 6 speed F body cars with CATHEDRAL heads. All those cars was over 402ci....
If you look up Pat G threads he have started you can tell he is not a big fan of the LS3 head. You'll see where he makes more power with AFR/TFS heads over the LS3 port head.
Cant go wrong with Pat G on the cam specs!!

He is a great guy.....I have driven 8 hours round trip on 2 diff occasions to have him tune my WS6, and will be going back to him on this build as well....Sending him a txt later today to get his opinion on which heads I should go with within my price range, and get the ball rolling on getting a cam grind...Mid to low 11 should be very easy, even with a near stock LS3 in a WS6...

I'm interested in hearing his recommendation on the head selection.

Texas Speed SELLS a Darton re-sleeved block for 2k. No one can beat that and I can't believe you guys didn't know about this one & I don't even do research anymore LOL!

Start off with a 4.185 and your off to the Races with a Big bore = more Hp & faster ET's

Why would I do that Brother I'll never build one. I refuse to go past my Lq4 that's why I WASTE money on **** not needed. But love to point someone in the Right Direction if I can. If you purchase that block let me get the aluminum one you got and some time in the Future I'd do a re-sleeve.

Texas Speed has been doing a bunch of ls3 testing. They're up to 650 hp on the stock bottom end NA on 93 octane.

I've seen where a guy made 721 hp NA on a 6.0 with ported stock ls3 castings. Not bad or what
