Default Maybe need more preload?

Well i pulled engine recently and let a reputable shop build it. Started up finally got it drivable, was open headers so couldn't hear any noises. Got exhaust fixed and got some pretty solid valve train noise is what i think it is anyways. Talking with the builder he was thinking my lifters might need more preload, i have morel 5315's and at 050 preload he got 7.3 on the push rods. I know every engine is different but Whats the thoughts? Also running .040 cometic gaskets. I had stethoscope on primaries and there is a little bit of ticking but nothing bad. put stethoscope on injectors and those things are loud as hell just don't think injectors would be that loud.

I unfortunately don't have sound on my computer at work but if you had to describe it what does it sound like? Is it the common sewing machine noise?

Go check my other thread. It was way more than sewing machine noise. Found out my push rods were .075 too short.

Buy a push rod length tool and check... A "a reputable shop" should have done that for you? I thought I recalled .060 was suggested for those lifters? I can't imagine .010 would make a huge difference on noise. Call Moral and ask maybe?

Could try a set of 7.4 OEM push rods and see if it quiets down any... if it does, order a decent set of 7.4" push rods.

It was .075. Put a 7.3 in there. I checked once I heard it a lil noisey. Needs a 7.375. Thanks!

Preload is pretty simple to figure out especially if you are a mechanic. He might have checked preload without the rocker stands installed. That mistake has happened before.

I'm having a similar issue I think. Mine sounds more like a tapping noise around the driver's side of the engine. I'm also running 5315 and with .060 my rods came out to 7.325 and I also thought it seemed short.

Did yours go away after it had run for 5 min or so? Could you tell if it was more dominant on one side vs the other? I can't really tell for sure in the video but what kind of a noise was it making?

driver side was louder for sure. More of some tapping and ticking. Go check out my other thread. Lots of
good stuff there. It's title. Well she stared and runs

Thanks man! I'm gonna check my rockers tonight! You have me very curious to see if that is also the culprit to my tapping.

Pulled my valve covers last night and all my rockers were tight. I did notice one of my plug wires was resting on the headers. I bent it off the headers and I don't hear it anymore.....stupid mistake.
