Default HPE iron block 408

Is anyone running this. Any opinions on it, I'm thinking about going this route but not sure yet. Any feed back will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Blake

My HPE 408 should be ready soon. I'm not in any big hurry since I still need to get heads and a Big Stuff 3 computer. My overall dealling with them have been really good. Even thou I like to spend more time up there than I should, (I miss my days of working in a Corvette shop), I never feel like I'm wasting their time. Great group of guys and as far as engine building credentials if you dig a little deeper you'll see why I chose then. Hope this helps.

An iron block in a C5 is blasphemy. You are going to unbalance the handling of one of the best handling cars ever made. You can go at LEAST 395ci without going big bore. Is 13ci worth it?

If you were wise, you would wait until the C6 blocks hit the market. Get big bore and lightweight without going broke.

When will the c6 blocks be out?

I guess for the price difference I can cut weight elsewhere.

I'm getting a LT1 TA - 1995 with an M6 and was going to go with a 6.0 truck block..... I still might if they are stronger than the aluminum block... Think drag racing hp levels....

I have a 395 and although the extra 13 cubic inches isnt a lot, the extra bore (4.03 instead of 3.9) makes a huge difference. I would say a difference of at least 30hp on somewhat similar setups.

I am also eagerly awaiting the LS2 block because I didnt want to add the additional weight of the iron block to my C5. It sure was tempting though.

You can make 520/490 easy with a 408 while a similar 395 is gonna make about 480/460.

Hell I made 520rwhp with the LS6 intake untuned with my 408ci. Just make sure you have the heads done by someone who knows what they are doing and also choose the correct cam for your combo.

Totally disagree. They are many C5/ZO6 that have iron block motors including myself. Most of these are running high levels of boost. With with a 4.125" crankshaft is not good because of the LSx/LQ4 block's low deck height.

The 408 iron block is the best way 2 if you ask me. You wont have to worry about sleeve issues and paying more $$$. HPE is building my 408 as we speak, great people to deal with and they build the block to your specs. I wish I could wait for the ls2 block to come out, but since I need a motor now, this is my best route.

I guess I'm more hyped about the future C6 24 valve Z06 head than the c6 block... Even if it gets bolted to a nice cheap 6.0 iron block..
