Pull a vacuum on the system and fill with (2) 12oz cans. I do it all the time.

BTW that = 1.5 lbs

If you didn't release all the freon, why did you release any?

If you live in a high humidity area like we do in Okla, you can charge it until you get condensation on the accumulator and be pretty close. Freon is less than $3/can around here so if it were me, I'd release it all and pull the vacuum and add the 2 full 12oz cans. It helps to have the vac pump and manifold gauges like I do though. Your only other alternative is to take it to a shop where they have a recovery machine and have them recover what is left and then inject the proper amount.

I don't mean to hijack, but, I've been wondering about this. All the cam install writeups I've seen say you need to purge the AC. Why do you have to purge it? Is it just to give you more room to work? Or is it actually required?
Thanks!

You don't. Just rotate the condenser down slightly until its out of the way for the cam to slide over the top. Don't know why anyone would purge it.

so you tapped the schreader valve and let some gas out? I wouldnt' top it off. I'd go to an independant shop and get a evac and recharge, probley needs it anyway. Atleast then its going to have proper charge, oil and be evacuated properly for probley $45-60 bucks.
