Lifting heads please explain...

lifting the heads occurs when you have too much cylinder pressure or detonation and it will stretch the head bolts causing you to blow a head gasket. will usually only happen with big boost or lots of N2O. hope this helps.Rich

I've never seen a LS1 that did it with my own eyes, but I have seen VW's and bikes that have done it. Often with aluminum blocks when the stress exceeds the bolt's ability to hold the head down, it's not the BOLT stretching, it's the threads in the case/block starting to pull out. If I had an engine that lifted a head, I would Keensert or Helicoil ALL the fastener mounts.
I don't know if LS1's are Keenserted/helicoil (steel inserts) already, but if I was building a blown application, I think I would prep the block that way before starting.
