Default cam selection X1 vs. G5X3

My car is an 02 Z06. The cam special at MTI got me going. 1500 installed and tuned is a great price. choosing the cam is the hard part. i defintley dont want a baby cam, so i am torn between the G5X3 on a 114 LSA and the X1 cam which is made on a 112 LSA.

X1 advantages:
very powerful cam, that delivers power in the midrange better than the G5x3 on a 114
is a relativley small cam but produces great numbers
can be installed and tuned at MTI with this special for a great price

X1 disadvantages:
made on a 112 means lobe
will not produce the numbers nor the performance of the G5X3 granted it is MUCH smaller

G5X3 advantages:
made on a 114 means nice amount of lobe(tolerable in my case)
most powerful cam in the market(made on a 114)

G5X3 disadvatages:
very big cam, i know the car will shake badly
LG cam package installed at LG is expensive i will have to do it somewhere else and have it tuned at LG only

PLEASE ANYONE WITH A CAM ONLY dyno graph post it up.

btw cam only means bolt ons + cam
heads are in the near future just need to choose the cam.
thanks!

id try a search. I had the same thoughts as you about the G5x-3 until i started reading the threads. The cam seems to be 100% streetable and 100% reliable on stock heads

i would choose the g5x3

as i'm sure poolfanatic told you, you can get an x1 on a 114.

You can't just use the lobe separation angle number to determine the amount of lope. Its the total amount of overlap, which the X3 has wayyy more overlap and will idle twice as lumpy as the X1. The X3 lays down good numbers for sure, but I'd never use it in my street car. The X1 is a solid performer and has been for a while...Dont forget, there are plenty more choices in between the two that you could consider.

I'm an x1 in a daily driver.....
good amount of lope to it....
should be some sound clips somewhere in my webpages...click my signature...
one of the best sounding cams in my opinion...
power is great at all rpm's.....pulls like a MF all the time...
I ran a 12.7 on sreet tires at the track last year... and pulled an 11.7 on the 1 and only time I have ever put slicks on my car(no 12 bolt...dont wanna break the rear) Full Weight!!!!!! + me 130lbs

only 1 major recommendation....
Dual springs.... Like the Patriot gold duals....I'll be upgrading my springs to these guys on monday cause I broke a single and got lucky enough to not hurt anything else....

I think G5x3 will lope way harder cause of the larger amount of overlap.....
and truly I think it would not pull as hard in the lower rpms...where you need power in a street vehicle.....

Ive installed many G5X2 and G5X3 cams out here in AZ, and have also run both myself in my car... the cam makes amazing low end, and top end... as well as having perfect drivability as long as you get a good tune in it. In addition fuel mileage is still top notch with me averaging 27+ on the freeway with 3.73 gears and a M6, and about 18 around town driving somewhat aggressively... Also before you get all the BS about lifters and springs going out, I have 30K miles with this cam in and springs and lifters are both fine, still pulls STRONG to 7000 on the dyno with not a hint of valve float or power dropping... from all the cams ive installed the G5X3 is my alltime favorite... however thats not to say its the best cam in the world, just the best I have come accross and I have no plans of changing!
