Default TSP225 or TSP228R for A4??

Buying one of the two very soon, just thought id get your inputs. Car is a bolt on 98 A4 car. Im running a TCI SSF3500 stall and stock 3.23 gears in the rear 10bolt. What would be a better street cam? driveability? gas mileage? They are both running a 112lsa, very similar lift. the 225 is actually a TINY bit higher with a .589 verses the .588 of the 228, but obviously has a bit more duration. What do you guys think?

my vote is for the 228r. Maybe eller will chime in here as that was the cam he ran low 7's with, and a set of ported ls6 heads.

with a good tune both of those cams should make within 5hp/5ftlbs of each other and get about the same mileage

I have the 228r and went 7.3 with it. No weight reduction to speak of. It is a nice cam but I've debated dropping down to the 225 to see if it has better low end torque.

If the lift is the same with different durations, one probably has less aggressive ramps. The 228 might actually be a "smaller" cam than 225, depending on the ramps. Check duration at .200 to find the real story.

i would like to see the duration at various lifts, wonder if TSP could give me those, I think the 225 has the more aggressive ramps.

Ya that is eller. He was on et's and 16s up front and him in the car(3700 on the scale). His car would have screamed if i was driving it. Not that i am a better diriver just i wiegh a 150.

He did a lot of searchin on cams before he got that one. Matched them to the heads and damn that thing put down the power and showed it. I am running that cam on a 114lsa and i am running the same times i was with the g5 but it is also a lot hotter now like 30+.

I wander what happend to those heads. Anyone on this board buy them. Just want to get the flow numbers.

I'm not 100% sure but I think R stands for X-ER lobes therefore more agressive.

The higher the Duration the more loss on the 2000>4000 trq #'s which is where you are at on the street.
So for more "Peak" 228R
For more street torq 225.

I liked the TSP 228R cam.. I thought it was very streetable.. That really depends on your idea of streetability however.. If you're going for an aftermarket cam gas consumption shouldn't be one of your major concerns.. If I was in your shoes, I'd go with the 228R and some 3.73s.. That should make for a fun setup with that converter..

Good Luck

401RWHP/368RWTQ on the dyno. It is very streetable, but midrange power is lacking to me. I spend more time in the 2-5k range, than the 4-6k range, so I plan on getting another cam one day.

I made 407 hp and 408 tq unlocked with the TSP 228R cam.. It made 425hp locked through 3.73s and stall in an A4.. My torque was not lacking..
