Default 408 guru's inside please

I have a chance to pic up a brand new 408 iron block motor for a REALLY good price, OK STUPID GOOD price. A shop put one together for a customer and he ended up backing out of the deal. But I dont know crap about them. This thing is brand new and unfired. What I want to know is, what kind of HP would this combo produce? What kind of RPM's could it handle? Does this cam look a little small for the motor?

Here is the goody list:
6 LITER BLOCK
CALLIES 4.00” STROKE CRANK
CROWER 6.125” SPORTSMAN RODS
LUNATI -13CC REVERSE DOME PISTONS 4.030” BORE
LS1 F-BODY OIL PAN
FEDERAL MOGUL RACE MAIN BEARINGS
CLEVITE RACE ROD BEARINGS
DURABOND CAM BEARINGS
LUNATI CUSTOM CAM – 234/240 @ .050 DURATION WITH .575” LIFT AND 113 LOBE SEPERATION
COMP CAMS HIGH REV HYDRAULIC ROLLER LIFTERS
PARTRIOT LS6 CYLINDER HEADS
ARP HEAD STUDS
FACTORY ROLLER ROCKERS
COMP CAMS PUSHRODS
LS6 INTAKE WITH INJECTORS AND THROTTLE BODY
ASP UNDERDRIVE CRANK PULLEY
PCM WITH PROGRAMMING

ANY info would be appreciated.

...wow - there are a lot of expensive parts in there - if it can be verified that they are real! Do your homework....

Most people that do 402s-408s in IRON don't go all out like that...

How much dough will the seller take for the engine; does it come with a car too?

My guess would be higher 400's as it sits. The cam is too small, and not knowing what valves are in the heads or flow numbers it is a little harder to guess. Change that cam for sure unless stealth is what you want. The engine should rev as much as the valve springs can handle. I can do 7k rpms no problem on my 422ci.

How much $$$$ ????
Guy wants 5K for it.

The cam is too small
Thats exactly what I was thinking. I would think you could put a MUCH larger cam in that motor.

What injectors are included?
Is the TB ported and polished?

Just curious, what CR do those pistons acheive?

28lb injectors but he said he would swap in 40lbers if I wanted

Stock TB

CR: 11.2:1

he also said that the guy that had originally ordered the motor specifically under cammed it. He said he would swap in something like a T-rex at no cost if I wanted.

If the parts are REALLY in the motor, then its a very good deal. It wouldn't be hard to spend $5k on just the rotating and machine work.

Defentially a good deal.
Verify the parts are there before you buy.

Sounds like a good deal. I don't know alot about those heads. But mine made 480ish with a similar cam and LS6 intake and stage III big valve heads. It Gained 20+rwhp with the LSX 90mm intake and TB. Injectors are too small. They'll be workin their butt off at WOT.
With a stage III big valve head and 90mm LSX intake and intake and 1 7/8 headers you should make 500rwhp with that motor on pump gas, even with the "small" cam. A larger cam probably won't help much w/o the corresponding heads and intake and proper sized exhaust.

Very good parts in there....I'd jump all over that deal.

Just the shortblock would cost that much probably just the parts, only thing I don"t like is the 13cc dish in the pistons but its not that bad. That cam is not that small also the Patriot ls6 heads should produce great numbers, its a steal!!!!!!!!!!BUY IT!!!

Depending on how well the heads flow you will need more cam for 500rwhp..

I would go with more cam and a better cylinder head.
