Default Low Coolant, Blown Head Gaset??

During the track runs tonight, I notice my ECT not dropping as quickly as usually. Eventually it got as high as 240 without dropping.

I check the coolant level and was about 1/2 gallon low. Once I filled it up, everything seemed fine. No white smoke, no water in the oil. Runs strong as ever.

What could allow the coolant to drop so low? Blown Head Gasket? Could 3 or 4 passes use that much coolant? Or have I been low for a while?

I have never added water/coolant so I guess it could be low. I was more worried about a head gasket.

Yeah sounds like it just evaporated over time, used up, etc. If you never check or add to it, it was probably just low. My stupid low coolant light is on, and I have full coolant, damn level sensor is bad, happens to almost all F-bodies. Did the light come on at all? Keep an eye on it for a while, if it stays full, you're cool

This is the first time the radiator cap had been off in 5 years. The dealer checks the overflow every time I get an oil change. But not the radiator.

Coolant light never came on.

I guess I am ok. Whew!

Isn't the sensor on the driver-side of the block?

Damn, you have never taken it off at all? What about when you installed the blower, you were able to leave all the plumbing for the radiator on? I thought the sensor was by the filler cap on the passenger side, I may be wrong though

Yep, didn't have to touch the radiator plumbing at all.

Never had a reason to remove the radiator cap till last night.

I ran it this morning on a dyno. Everything is still running fine.

Just check it again, and the overflow reservoir was overflowing.
