The word "ported" is a little deceiving. Its more like honed. The pressure relief valve sometimes sticks in its bore due to improper machining...The bore just needs to be honed out slightly. IMO, its not really a necessary thing to even do. There are hundreds of thousands of those oil pumps in circulation...very few have issues...especially the newer ones. I wouldnt go at the pump with a grinder if you're unsure of what needs to be done.

Its not that hard,once you take the pump apart you can see a lot of sharp edges and such.,its a lot like porting heads just smaller,clean it up inside where the oil flows get rid of all the sharp turns and edges.One spot is the pick-up tube inlet or hole.Also the pump outlet can use some clean up, just cut off shap edges around the hole.You should take out the pressure relief spring and plunger as it will get full of shavings.Good luck!p.s. check out CHEVY RUMBLE ,March 2004 detailed article.WWW.CHEVYRUMBLE.COM
