Default Federal Mogul vs Clevite 77s

What are your thoughts on what bearings to use?

I seem to only find the FM's available, does clevite even make set for the ls1?

I run clevite 77s in the rods (just standard SBC bearings).

For the mains I'm only aware of the FMs (152M)

I was just talking with a few engine builders about this very subject and the two that I talked with both used Clevite on the mains and the cam bearings and they used Fedral mogul rod bearings. Both of them are Big LS1 sponsers and I don't want to say who they were as they might not like people knowing what they use so I will let them say if they wish etc... So all I can say is call them like I did and see what everybody is recomending. I was told the Federal mogule mains have more clearance so the oil presure doesn't look good and so it scares people so that is the reason for the mains anyway. I guess it would scare me too if my new high dollar motor had only 20 psi at idle etc... The builder said it was not a problem he still uses them in there really high HP motors just not in the ones they are selling to the public because of the low oil presure etc..

Clevite 77 does offer bearings for the LS1/LS6. The rods are the same as a standard SBC, but the mains are different. Now, Clevite offers what they call a "P" bearing, and an "H" bearing.
The "P" bearing is basicly a stock OEM bearing. The "H" bearing is suitable for all types of racing. You would use an "H" bearing on just about all aftermarket cranks.

ROD BEARING PART# CB663 (P or H)
MAIN BEARING PART# MS2199 (P or H)

We keep a large amount of these in stock ready to ship!!

does clevite make a H series main bearing that is .001" oversized? I ended up with .003 clearance on my mains and I have a feeling that it's too much.

Thanks
Frank
