Cam swap checklist
Already have a cam and heads, just changing the setup...
New cam, check.
Longer crank bolt, check.
(2)5/16" rods for lifters, check
Front cover seal, on order.
Coolant, check.
New crank bolt, on order.
Do I need to do my oil?
Did I miss anything?
After doing most of the cam swap on Hourang's car this weekend, I don't see why we couldn't swap my cam out and the new one in within 2-3 hours tops, didn't really realize how easy it was.

What springs and pushrods do u have now? Do you have a spring tool? Air compressor with spark plug fitting or something to hold up the valvesprings if doing the springs? Pulley puller?
You'll need water pump gaskets, and maybe valve cover gaskets too (if doing the springs).
Washers for that longer crank bolt if you don't have them.
Ported oil pump, timing chain, and pulley if you don't have those and want to upgrade.
I'd get fresh oil and filter in there for 100 miles then change it. I'd also put in new spark plugs, especially if changing the springs and using an air compressor to hold up the valves, the plugs have to come out anyway.
You also need some RTV, Loctite, and anti-sieze.
Then print this out and it will be your Bible for this install...

I already have Patriot Gold Duals...
Not gunna mess with plugs, springs, ect, no need to.
I can rent the pully puller.
Since I have a 99 I can reuse my waterpump gaskets i thought?
Got the washers.
Got a ported pump, timing chain on there already.
I guess I will do the oil and I have RTV, Loctite, and anti-sieze.
So I guess I am covered then?

You will definitely need the front cover gasket for around the crank snout, you may want to have the water pump gaskets on hand...I forget what year they switched to reusable ones. Extra motor oil, filter for the oil change after you run it a bit, loctite, brake parts cleaner for cleaning the cam (hmmm...I actually forgot this step...hope it wasn't too big of a snafu), you might as well put on an underdrive pulley (if you have the cash), timing chain and oil pump if you are over 50k miles, and a LOT of beer....Mmmmm....beer. Make sure you regulate your alcohol intake carefully during the actual cam removal and installation.
