Is 108k miles too many for a cam install??
Fm13 cam going in the car. Or should i change and go with nitrous until the motor goes. Some guys have said rebuild and that 108k miles is too many. They were all interstate miles driven by a girl. miles are miles i guess, although i would rather have my sisters miles over my own . I Think it should be ok. Any thoughts

You are rigth Fastone if the motor is bad it going to let you know giving you warninig like smoke, sound, etc. If you feel everything is rigth with you car go for it and do the cam change.I think a good idea to is to replace the timing chain and oil pump.

105k here and just installed a cam. I have no wierd noises, ZERO burning of oil, and no smoking. Just be sure to replace the oil pump, timing chain, pushrod's, and the springs and you should be set to go. Enjoy!
BTW, what's the specs on that cam?

Ehh, that's kind of a personal thing. I personally would do it, for peice of mind mainly. And I have heard of the pre 01's failing for no reason.
Matt, what does your oil pressure read at idle when it's hot?

When putting a cam the size of the FM13 (Revs till 6800 and more), it puts a lot of stress on the bottom end.
It is usually the rod bolts that let go from being fatigued.
Put it all on paper and see for yourself all the parts on top needing replacement and do the math.
Cam/valvetrain $1000
oil pump $130
Double Roller $120
Gaskets/Bolts $80
Lubes/oil $50
Rockers $320
Total $1700 not counting tools.
This doesn't change your lifters that could collapse on such high lifts, rod bolts, tired valve seats etc......
Good luck!!

The car runs awesome(knock on wood). Great compression all across the board and burns no oil. Timing chain, oil pump, rockers and lifters were all figured into my budget. Im a "while your in there might as well" kinda guy. Only thing im worried about is the tune. What do i do since i just have the stock computer i.e. no ls1 edit? Ive been deliberating for weeks between the g5x3 and the fm13. Hard choices, but i figure they are both really awesome cams so either is a great choice.
