Re: What Cam for my A4
I have the TR224-114. I cant compare it to another cam since it is the only aftermarket cam I've ran, but I've been very pleased with it. Idles and drives very well. Dealing with Thunder Racing is always a pleasure also, good customer service and info.

ive heard that the g5x2 cam is pretty big and idles really rough. Is a rough idle cam good for an a4 daily driver. also does a higher duration and lift make the car idle rougher. Im not to familiar whith the numbers on duration and lift.

Re: What Cam for my A4
I gained 43HP from a MMS 224 114lsa cam. I have been very pleased with it.
If you want the cam for better ET's, I would suggest a good converter first(if you dont already have one).

You really do to consider a higher stall torque converter before you a big cam. The problem with cams is that a small cam is not worth the investment (IMO unless your labor is free) and a bigger cam needs a higher than stock idle for a daily driver. A 220/220 114 or 224/224 114, both of which are good compromises of power and drivability require higher idles. The 220 cam typically would use a 750 - 850 rpm idle with the 224 using an 800 - 900 idle. If you want more lope and shake, you can go 50 rpm below my suggested range. An 800 rpm or higher idle on a stock converter will get anoying in stop and go traffic. Additionally, with a cam your powerband will be higher and a higher stall converter will get you into that power band sooner and keep you closer to peak HP on the upshifts.
Bottom line: your order of mods should be: 3000 - 3600 stall torque converter, LS1 Edit, and then a cam.

What Cam for my A4
I just bought my first ls1 car about 2 months ago. I went to a riced out civic to a 99 trans am A4. I bought it stock but so far Ive got grotts long tube headers, ory-pipe, gmmg exhaust, and a lid with k&n filter. Now I have enough saved for a cam plus install and tuning. My question is what cam. I drive the car daily so I want to be able to still do that. i just want a cam that sounds good, adds good hp numbers, but can be driven daily. Id appreciate any advice or opinions.

Welcome to the LS1 world.
I'd do a 3200-3500 stall for a street car, or a 3500-4000 for a car that sees a lot of track time.
I'd run a 19,000 GVW trans cooler (in that range).

The QTPs are sweet with the steel version and that high flow collector. You cant beat those headers

Re: What Cam for my A4
typically any 224 cam is gonna get you about 30-40hp.. could be 20-30 though depending on mods. Cams love stall, gear, and to breath
but bascially I see most cam cars atleast pick up 30hp from a 220-224 cam
Just try a search in here and see what you can find on dyno numbers. But dont really look at the dyno's, look at there track times. Ive seen cars become dyno queens. but cant do squat at the track! Id hope to be in the 360-370 range with my cam and bolt ons but I have never dynoed cause im not about HP numbers. Though I would like to get my A/F logged though
