Default 408 or 427

so should I go with a 408ci or 427ci with my 6.0 block I know there is a couple 408ci kits out there but I haven't seen any 427ci. what a the drawbacks to a 427ci motor, the 4.125 bore?

I believe for 427 there is just more machine work you have to do to the block for the rods to clear, I went with a 408 myself and it worked out good.

If you want 427 cubes you need a sleeved aluminum block.

You can do many different sizes with a 6.0 Iron Block
402 = 4"bore x 4"stroke
408 = 4.030 bore x 4" stroke
414 = 4.060 bore x 4" stroke
422 = 4.030 bore x 4.125 stroke
427 = 4.060 bore x 4.125 stroke

These are off the top of my head, they should be correct

Don't forget 4.060 bore X 4.250" stroke = 440.

I have an iron block So the bottom of the block needs to be machined as well. That isn't to bad, worth the effort? I think It would be, I mean I like torque. So there's no problem with 427ci other than the bottom machine work? I was thinking the boar need to be 4.125 that's kinda thin, but I can live with a 4.125 crank stroke. SO is there enough room in the piston for the pin and the bottom oil ring? Or what? What pinston and what connecting rod?

I say go 408 or 414 if you have the iron block that way you keep the bore a bit bigger than the stroke. If you go aluminum definatly go 427.
