Default Cam question

You guys that are running these cams around 220 - 230 @.050, can they be installed with no modification to pistons? What is the limit on the stock LS1 in terms of duration and lift without needing to have the pistons cut? Thanks.

This is a question more suited for the Internal Engine section. I think you can go up to .600" lift without flycutting the pistons. Most cams in the 220-230 range will not have lifts that high. You get into the .6's in the 230-250 range. Dont forget you will also need some heavy duty springs that can handle the high lift and ramp rates.

You can fit a mighty big cam over the stock pistons. I myself don't know of any under nearly 240* duration that don't fit on stock pistons. Most companies/sponsors who sell cams will let you know on the website that it won't fit stock pistons. For example, on TSP's site there is a little * that lets you know.

Yep, I'm running a 231/237 .598/.598 112 lsa and it's fine... clearance is not even an issue. There are cams that are a good bit bigger than this one (G5X3 comes to mind) that don't need any clearancing either...
