Default T-Rex or G53 cam in a daily drivin A4?

Anyone done it yet or is the pcm tuning to complicated to swap to these cams in a A4?

There are X3's in A4, tuning is VERY important and will make or break the drivability of that cam in that car, a torque converter is very important too along with taller gearing.

Check the sig. I have plenty of gearing and converter for either of the cams.

Either will work in an A4. You definately want to play with the shift points at lower MPH though, makes a huge difference. I really had no problem with the Trex in my A4 and 3.23 gears/4000 stall after adjusting the shift perameters. Some good tuning will need to be done for good drivability as well..

In my opinion, your talking about 2 diffrent cams. The LG cam pushes the limit of P/V with a smaller .050 duration and lots of advance. Whereas the T-rex does it with a big .050 duration and less LSA. I think the X3 would be easier to tune due to the 114 LSA as opposed to the T-rex's 110. Your also talking about almost 10 degrees diffrence in .050 duration. I do believe the T-rex was designed for max power with stock heads, whereas the X3 was designed for best power with ported heads. If it were me, and I was keeping the stock heads, I'd go with the T-rex, but if you ever plan on getting heads, I'd look more into the X-3. PM me if you need some specs.

This is what im in a debate over is to do heads next spring or go with a big cam next spring and see how far i can go cam only. The only thing i don't like about the G5X-3 cam is that i will have to shift around 6800 rpms since it's on a 114 lsa but it will drive alot easier and idle better than the T-Rex but the T-Rex in my opinon would be the ET and mph cam of the 2 but how much i don't know then i hope that i don't run into tuning problems with it.

Anyone done any dynos between the 2 cams?

This isnt a g5x3, but pretty close.
TR230 vs. TRex. http://www.geocities.com/danwade@pac...ex-overlay.jpg This is a forged 346 with Kooks, LS6 intake, Crane rockers, etc. Full details are here. https://ls1tech.com/forums/dynamometer-results-comparisons/167792-trex-dyno-numbers.html

T-Rex with stock heads for now. Cam swaps are realatively easy and you can enjoy your cam until you decide to do heads. I've seen, heard, FELT the T-Rex in Jason's car at Thunder....BANG, BANG dude....Just my .02

For a daily driver you could go with either. I'd suggest the g5x3 though. It's a little smaller and a little more streetable. It all does depend on how good of a tune you get, like everyone else said. I've seen daily driven g5's and have heard of people who have the t-rex. No compaints from either.

I need to know who does all your tuning, because my cam drives me absolutely crazy with driveability problems in my car and it is much smaller than either of those cams.

You'd probly get better gains from a FAST intake or stepped headers rather the cam.

I don't see how either cam is good for an A4 daily driver as both make little low end torque.

Your probably right seeing i still have outdated mac headers on the car but all the sponsors i talk to tell me im wasteing my time going to a long tube or stepped header??? I like the hookers and kooks but i can't get anyone to post their gains from mac's to either of these headers.

The LSX intake is at a rediculous price and if i were to spend that kind of money i would go with a set of stage II heads first.
