Which heads do you have? The 241 is a really nice head to work with,I "m porting mine too, not too hard.Have you ever ported any heads before? You need to get a good 6in long (flame shaped)burr.About 35 to 50 bucks, I got mine at the local speedshop. If you have an aircompressor you can use a cheap 1/4 air grinder from Home Depot or Lowes, cost about 25 bucks. You need a good light too,I bought a desk lamp with a long flexible neck and halagen bulb at Office Depot is was about 35 bucks.Hey it cost MONEY to do your own!!I"ll check back on here tonight I got to go to work.

How's it going? I am new to the site. I have been reading it for a while and just registered. I have a set of heads I am planning on porting myself. I have searched all over and have not found any real good info on porting LS1 heads. Pictures would help a lot. does anyone know of a site with the info on it? I have never ported heads before but I am pretty compotent mechanic. any help would be great. I would like to save the money and do it myself but if all else fails I'll just have them done.

Hey man welcome!!!I did the same thing I just read ,then I decided to join up, you"ll learn a lot on here. These guys are sharp!!!

Are the heads on your 2000 T\A?If they are they are 241 castings, they are pretty smooth already but they are easy to port!!You have to get the right stuff to do it.Do a search for ported head pictures and look real good!!

The heads on my car casting # 241. I bought some off of a 2002 with a casting # of 862. Are there any differences?

Well,. I just found there is a big difference. 862 castings are from a truck and have smaller valves. what would be the best thing to do, scrap them? my goal is 400+rwhp. Kind of have a sinking feeling right now

it's acually a better casting if you can buy some valves and have a shop valve job them
