Default Looking into cam...what cam good for 3.42

I have been searching through the forum alot finding all I can out about cams. When I get enough cash I want to get a cam for my car. I have been mainly looking at the TR 224/224 112, TR 230/224 111, and TSP 228/228 cams because I have heard they will make close to 400rwhp, which is my goal. I want a cam that will be okay to drive in the city and that makes decent low end power. That's my big concern because I don't have the cash to change gear ratio, plus I think it's a waste to put any money into the 10 bolt rear end.

I am not very knowledgable when it comes to cams, but I'm trying to learn. Which of those cams would be best for 3.42's and make close to 400rwhp. If those aren't good choices recommend me a cam. Thanks

I went with a TR224 112.

The other cams you listed will make power higher in the rpm range which won't be as good with the 3.42s. My research, with tons of great input here, showed that the 224 was the biggest cam I could run if I wanted to make good power down low.

I made 380rwhp with a TR220 and about the same mods as you a couple of years ago. I would expect 380 to 390 range. Btw.. where in North Bama are you? I'm in the same area.

Guntersville/Albertville. when you get ready to do the cam, let me know. I have HP tuners for 2001 and 2002 along with local dynojet access, we'll get that thing tuned in GOOD.

Sweet! I'll put you on my buddy list and keep in touch. I saw your car over at bhamracing.com and it's one sweet ride!

TR224 112LSA I've run this cam for over a year now and absolutely love it! I would not want to go any bigger with the stock 3.42s. Get all the bolt ons, ported tb, asp pulley and especailly a tune and you will be in the 380-400rwhp range on stock heads. You also have the 241 head castings which make a tad more power than the older 853's. Attached below is my dyno of TR224 on stock heads, all mods in sig except I was running a Hooker ORY instead of my Catted Y.

just to throw a cat in the mix, the aussies are making good power with 222/224 112 and a crane 224/228 114. suggest you call a cam maker grinder, tell him what you want from your car, they may suggest a custom grind rather than an off shelf item.
