I know someone who constructed a 422. He is using MTI's S1 cam. His complaint. It isn't radical enough, and he wants more power. The car is dynoing right around 500 but he'd like more than that.

The MTI specs for the S1 are:
244/244 .612/.612 112 LSA

I was wondering if anyone had a bigger stick than that, that they had used, and if they had measurable gains by doing so?

I also have the S1 with the same specs. you quote on my new MTI 427 Ironblock Z07 motor going through my A4 and loose Yank 4000 stall drag converter. WIth MTI's great tuning prowess, my street manners are great for me (i have a higher tolerance than most C5 guys) and have never stalled the car once in 1000 miles in traffic of idling in my garage, etc.

From what i have seen, I do think the S1 is about as aggressive a cam that most folks are running in the big cubed motors and sounds like your friend needs to step up with a very aggressive SOLID ROLLER CAM which should yield him about 550rwhp through a manual tranny. I don't think the extra expense and results he sees will be worth it if he goes with a slightly more aggressive hyd. cam than the S1. You need SOLID ROLLER to make a TRUE SERIOUS HARDCORE MONSTER RACING MOTOR.

I am getting 503hp, 476tq through a M6 and 411's

My thoughts were that this was about as big as you would find in a hyd. cam. The SAM Camaro had a stick around the same size, and right after that they went solid roller. I just wanted to see if anyone had success with anything larger.

I know of a local with a 422 that has made 643rwhp through an M6, with a nice size solid roller. Can't give away specs, but its in the 260 duration range...and this is with a sheetmetal intake.

I'd invest in a set of 1.875 full length headers before I changed anything else for a 4.100 bore motor.

Katech has a bigger single pattern cam out there too.

I did 475rwhp/505rwtq with a 4.060 bore motor thru a 9" on slicks with the S1 thru 1.75 full lengths I think 490rwhp with bigger headers was possible... I've done a lot research on header size.

Until a great intake comes out for the LS1 we are currently at the point of diminishing returns on HP with most motors. I have heard from some tuners that there are a few composite, high flowing, runner adjustable intakes coming out. Should CURE all of our flow on the intake issues. I'm gonna sit back and wait for that baby to come out then a big single split, large duration, low lift cam. Should be pretty insane benefit!

The S-1 cam should be lots big enough for a superstroker. Anything more, and it will be a pain to drive. The quest for ultimate horsepower can never be reached.
