Default Oil Analysis came back!

I don't have a scan of it or anything, but if anyone's interested, I figured it might be a good idea to try and get some oil analyses up for people to look at and compare to their mods. Maybe some people other than just Patman will be interested...

Oil was Mobil1 0w40....

You forgot the most important info, how far did you run that oil for? If it's 3k or more, those numbers look pretty good.

Sorry about that! It was late at night and I was the most coherent at the time. Here are some more important #'s:

Miles on Oil - 3000
Miles on Unit - 54562

Comments: Nothing showed up in the initial sample from your Camaro that would indicate a problem. In fact, this is possibly the best wearing LS-1 I've seen all month! All wear read at or below averages, which is a very good indication of normal wearing parts. Universal averages show normal wear after about 3,900 miles on the oil. Insolubles (oil oxidation due to heat, use and blow-by) were low at 0.3%, showing good oil filtration. No fuel dilution or anti-freeze was found. At 54,562 total miles, this engine appears to be doing very well.

One thing I noticed was that the viscosity and flashpoint are both towards the bottom end of the spectrum. After only 3000 miles, it's making me consider switching to Amsoil or Redline... Any thoughts?

The viscosity of 0w40 Mobil 1 usually does dip down a little bit in the first 3000 miles, but then it comes back up again after that. The flashpoint does look a little low, although some of that reason is the 0.5% fuel in it too. I would stick with this oil for a little while since it does seem to be working well, the wear numbers are good.

Driving conditions for that particular test were basically all highway, next oil change will be analyzed too, it's a lot more stop and go.

Test cost $20, add $10 if you want a TBN (total base number) count. That can give you more information on extended interval usage.

Well I'm no oil expert at all, I would wait for Patman to make an appearance. He seems to have done the most research on the subject out of just about anyone on the boards. However, what I'm running now is Mobil 1 and you can see the wear #'s I got on my oil analysis. I was very happy with them. On the other hand, I'm planning on trying Amsoil (which I've heard exceptionally good things about) or Redline sometime soon. These are just my opinions, and I'm extremely happy with the Mobil 1, but I can't say for sure about the others since I haven't tried them yet. Hopefully Patman will chime in sometime...

With a twin turbo you'll probably end up running hotter oil temps so you'll want to run something like Redline 10w40, Amsoil 10w40 or Royal Purple Racing 41. Mobil 1 0w40 would also be good too.

Guys consider using our services for a extra $5 from the lab Pimpmaro used and I will interpret the data and give you essentially a tune up overview from the oil analysis data. That includes TBN too. If Pimpmaro will allow me I will give him a free online read for a good example of what can be done with analysis.

Terry
