Default Is everyone soaking their lifters and rockers in oil before assembly?

I still cant believe all the valvetrain issues here. I put together my first motor with the help of a buddy that has done big blocks before and I havent had any valvetrain issues at all...with comp Rs, Pro Magnums, and a wild *** cam.

Are you guys soaking the lifters and rockers in oil for a few hours before assembly? Wonder if that is causing you guys some problems...oil issues. Checking the roller tip on the retainers for pushrod length? Putting the recommended preload (.008-.010" for my setup)? I just saw another post for no preload with Pro Magnums..dont understand it.

Yep, wash them to get the storage crap off...then soak them. Just wondering if these guys arent doing that and its contributing to the problem. Rocker tip on valve tip was easy to check too.

I like my coffee like I like my women (thick, strong, and very bitter ), but I wouldn't soak my lifters in it... that'd be a waste of good coffee...

(and I presoak my lifters in oil too... )

Good practice to soak roller rockers and rollerlifters in oil prior to installing,I would soak at least 24 hrs. Also a good way to store these parts when not in use.If you can get a plastic gallon container with a big screw on lid and put a qt of oil in it with your motor parts, works great.Don"t forget to label it so you know what parts they are.

Used to be, you were supposed to put the lifters in oil
and work the center plunger so's they got the internal
fluid chamber filled. But that's hard to do when the
bottom isn't flat anymore....

I was hoping some guys would chime in that didnt soak their rockers/lifters...and not have any issues or all had issues. Looks like all of us that dont have issues soak the stuff.

I installed Crane stock replacements without soaking... no problems. Just cranked the engine without plugs to get oil pressure and pump up the lifters.

I agree here... I thought the only reason to do the oil thing would be to pre-pump-up the lifters.

you have to wash them in mineral spirits to get the cosmolene off/out of the oil passages...then soaking them in oil get it where it needs to be right off the bat...in my opinion.

If you didnt wash them I would think the roller tip would have major issues.

I sprayed the roller tips real good with CRC and also sprayed through the oil hole. 7k miles on these now. Much faster this way, but of course if you want to play safe you go by the procedures.
