Default HELP - Cam install: rear retainer plate????

Is there a there a rear retainer plate that prevents the cam from sliding too far back into the block? Or does the combo of the cam gear and timing chain keep the cam in place? TIA

The rear cover (that holds the rear main seal and covers the oiling passages in the block) covers the rear of the cam. The cam will slide "back" some in the block but not very much (just enough to make getting the gear on the pin a PITA).....
