i didn't, i was hoping it wasn't a gold dual.....

i can't really help you with the removal. get a set of needle nose pliers and pry the bitch out i guess?

how did you break it? i am about to buy these and install them on a bigger cam then you are running(231/237). did these come installed from patriot? or did you buy them from a vendor? any information you could provide would be great appreciated.

There are a lot of us out here with these heads, I am not running a real agressive lift/cam but given the failures I have seen I'm a little worried. What doesn't make sense is Patriot says the people that make thier springs are the same people that make the OEM ones.

If indeed it broke due to spring failure, it would be the first to date. I'm thinking something else may have caused it. On the other hand, I guess 1 out of however many out there isn't bad considering the size of the cams people are putting these on.

I wouldn't say that I've been covering all the stories about PP very well, but if I'm not mistaken, this might be the first PP gold to break...

why should this stop you? do a search for spring failure and see what comes up. We have seen/heard of here and there failures of springs made by all of the major players in the industry. it is part of the game and springs are the most abused part of the valve train.
Hell AFR uses the PP duals on their LS1 heads, that should speak well for them if nothing else does.
sure it sucks to have a spring break, but breaks happen with this part regardless of who makes it.

if this turns out to be true spring failure, its gonna be a first. considering people are running these with the G5X3, the T-ReX, a couple big *** custom cams....its bound to happen eventually. here it happened with a smaller cam, so what. do the math.....how many sets.....one failure....what are the odds it will happen to you? they're in your favor!! still the best spring out there for the money....

What were you doing when the spring broke? (WOT, cruising, and how many miles are on the springs)

You didn't rev the motor up on a cold-start did you?

It sounds like from your quote that you just put the heads on and a spring broke which usually means you didn't heat cycle them.

Please fill everybody in on the details.

Thanks!

We received the broke spring today. The spring is NOTa Patriot Gold. It is the spring that preceeded the golds.

Well that's a relief... I was getting a little worried about my PP golds there for a minute.

That's interesting.

What color are the pre-gold springs? (Brown or Red I'm guessing)

Kinda like a grayish-brown. I guess that's the best way to describe it. If you have seen one of our golds, you will defintely be able to tell them apart.
